Diablo’s newest entry has been announced and I was stoked, emphasis on was. Lead game designer Wyatt Cheng walked onto the stage at Blizcon and began talking of slaying demons which got everyone’s blood rushing to kill the lord of terror once again. This was crushed as Cheng began talking of mobile devices. That’s right Diablo in your pocket.
Now, hopes began to rise as Cheng begins talking of the ending of Diablo 2 bringing hopes that maybe we’re coming back to game play we know and love and continuing on an event not really focused on in Diablo 3, that being the world stones destruction. This was followed by a cinematic trailer which i’ll be honest, is one of the coolest things ever. Check it out.
I went full disappointment after the game play trailer, as it is absolutely nothing new. if you showed me footage of Diablo 3 next to Immortal, it’d be hard to tell the difference. Same classes, hell same art for the classes, its a copy and paste just onto phones, which i wouldn’t be so mad about if they were announcing Diablo 4 or something before hand, but it looks at the moment that this is the game they want people to be playing.
Let’s give the game the benefit of the doubt and say it’s an original and extremely fun to play Diablo game. Still one huge problem, when asked if the game would be ported to PC or if it would be strictly on mobile Cheng had to say “The current plan is to be on mobile, both Android and IOS. We don’t have any plans at the moment to do PC.” Which was followed by him nearly getting boo’d off stage. The reason this is an issue is mobile’s a platform for casual gamers, its a fad platform, you play it while you’re on the toilet. Diablo on the other hand is, and has always been an in depth and competitive game, with Diablo 2’s ladder still being updated to this day.
If I were Blizzard id be begging Blizzard North to come back and make Diablo 4, I can’t see any way for the Diablo franchise to be saved from where it’s gone. I recommend to everyone play Diablo 2 the games amazing i’v been running a hardcore play through by myself. Or if you’ve played it to death, try Torchlight 1 and 2 on steam.
Immortal’s release date is yet to be announced.
